pics are kinda hard to see but the one in the bottom right looks the most clear to me...and it looks like a scypha sponge. Completely harmless and pretty much "just there" lol. Just filter feeds

Correct, Scypha Sponges. The top image is from my ID page, actually. Here's what it says:

This is a harmless Scypha sponge. They are very small, and usually found in our overflow boxes and down in the sump. Attached to rock, glass or acrylic or even your plumbing, they may be about the size of a grain of rice or perhaps larger, like Debi's above. These little filter-feeders are reef-safe.

Common name"pineapple sponge".

Aren't they indicative of good water quality?

melev:

What type of LR do these particular sponges come in on?

I don't know that they are specific to any certain liverock. I tend to use Fiji LR, so perhaps that is how they appeared in my tank.

It is a sponge, so it could come in on virtually anything, including corals, decorator crabs or tuxedo urchins.

This isn't a particular species of sponge, but several species with similar growth forms. You can get them from just about any type of rock.

No, they don't mean anything about your water quality.

I second what greenbean said. They can come on ANY rock (or even corals for that matter..i've had that happen a couple times) and they dont mean squat about the water quality. They just are there. But they seem to go thru a phase in all my new tanks (almost like algae i guess) and cut back a bit in the end. They also tend to stay in dark areas

Hi guys, so how do we control them. Thanks.

You don't need to. They will not become problematic.

as stated they cover lots of surface but are harmless. if you have them everywhere including surfaces in display that obscure view just scrap/pick them off. could mean your filter feeding addatives are making them happy and spread but also in new tanks the spawn huge then as time goes they control them self to a minimu. if your tank is less tha a few months dont worry and forget about it. common common bloom in new tanks !!!!!!

Filter feeding! That could be the case, I started to use DT with oyster eggs months ago, and these guys show up. First I saw only a few, and boom, they multiply so fast. Thanks.
