lighting question

I just investd in my first saltwater setup. I have a 110 gallon tall with sand only right now (just added today). I will begin adding liverock when the cloudyness clears. I have dual 250watt metal halides and was wondering how long I should leave the lights on. I have a timer hooked up, but don't know how long to leave them on for now. Any suggestions are appreciated.

For the cycle, 6-8 hours would be good but once you start adding corals thant I would bump it up an hour or two.
