I noticed this on my live rock a few months after placing the rock in my tank. It's 2 years old now and about 1 inch in diameter. The white flecks were small originally, but have grown over time.

I've not had to do any special types of feeding for it (which leads me to believe it is a filter feeder of sorts) and it retracts the face into a little fist when I disturb the tank (such as scraping alge).

Thanks,

Hi David,

That is Palythoa, a genus in the coral subclass Alcyonaria (= Octocorallia).

Great!

That will get me started on trying to find out more about it.

Much appreciated

If you want to include the actual picture use [IMG} before the link and [/IMG} after.

Cheers
:D

Using the wrong bracket on the rightside because it tried to use the writing inbetween as a link.

Thanks for the heads up/tip on that. I had hit the IMG button and thought that might work (preview obviously showed that I was wrong).

I'll try practicing with that.

Use [ & ] not [ & }

"Using the wrong bracket on the rightside because it tried to use the writing inbetween as a link"
