What's the best camera to use when taking close shots of corals?

There are so many decent cameras out there that it is difficult to say which one is best. I use a couple cameras, a Nikon Coolpix 3700 and a Canon Digital Rebel. Most digital cameras now come with preset scene modes, including Close-up and/or Macro, so close-ups are easier to take.

One suggestion I would make is to use a tripod when taking close-ups. This will hold the camera steady and is great for taking time lapse photos.
