Hey all,

When you connect a pump to the phosban reactor, should the media tumble in the chamber, or should it sit there?

I know it's probably a silly question, but since I just hooked mine up, I'm not sure.

Thanks :)

It depends on the strength of the pump. A little tumbling is ok (thats why you only fill it 3/4). A vortex is no good.

Cool. Mine is just sitting there with the water flowing through it. It's running on a rio 400 (about 144gph full throttle).

As I understand it, the most flow I need is 80-90gph, so I should be good to go.

Thanks for the help :)

The instructions in mine says the top 1/2 inch of the media should tumble gently.

Pat

Hmmm... mine doesn't tumble at all. Also, my reactor (kent marine phosban reactor) says to put 150 grams of media into the reactor. Unless I've severely mis-measured, 150 grams was about 1.5" deep in the reactor.

I'm using a rio 400 for the pump (rated at 144gph), and it doesn't cause the media to tumble at all.

I use a Three Little Fishes brand. I use 250 ml of RowaPhos brand media. It meaures about 5 or so inches up the tube. (That is a memory meausrement so it could be off)

If you don't have a large tank or a humongous level of phosphates that amount will probably be enough. I had a pretty bad algae problem and use 250 ml changed out every 3 weeks.
