when i originally set up my refugium, i started with a small piece of chaeto, sand and some rubble. now there are the pods and the chaeto is growing like crazy. In addition there are lots of other algaes growing. is this normal and is it good? the algae is not spreading to the main tank so that is not a concern now. just curious if i should clean out the other algae, like a blue green feather algae and some brown algae also.

thanks,
jess

Personally, I'd leave the other algae alone, unless I thought they were ugly. Your situation sounds normal to me.

Yeah I wouldn't bother it at all. It's better off in your refugium than being in your display. If you remove it and the nutrients it's feeding on are still present in your system, then it will come back anyways.
