no way is that too much light. IMO, its pretty good..not that watts per gallon matter much, but it comes to exactly 10 watts per gallon.. so you've got pretty good amount of light imo, and theres no way that its too much (specially since its just pc's)

plus the corals look happy, so i'd be happy ;)

cool thanks how about SPS down the road. Why i ask is my Xenia is loosing her feathery part of polyps around “fingers?”

well you've got plenty of light for xenia, so the only reason it'd be doing this that i can thnk of would be water quality...check the following:
amonia
nitrite
NITRATE
phosphate
temperature
SG
and i'm forgetting something, someoen else will pitch in hopefully.

Its possible that you could do sps down the road...but wait a long time and let the tank mature...and if you dont have a skimmer, GET ONE. imo, they're a must for sps corals because they need pristine water conditions.

calcium and alk.

also xenia, absorb disolved organic componds. They also like strong water movement.

what are the actual numbers tho? you'd be surprised at how many people say "all fine" for the parameters and then they actually tell their numbers later and they find out that there was actually a number that wasnt "all good" that they didnt know about...so just to be sure, post the numbers.

Ammonia: 0
N02(nitrite): 0
*N03 (nitrate) : >12.5mg/l but < 0mg/l*??
Temp: 80.7 F
Calcium: 475-500ppm
S.G.: 1.024
*KH: 7 dh*???
tank is 4 months old all live rock is 3+ years in fowlr tank same with sand

i'm about to run out the door so i cant google it right now, but do you know what 12.5mg/l comes out to in ppm?

and i could be wrong but usually you want the calcium to be 400-450...so it might be a little high, but i dont know if it would cause that. What salt is it? i'm gonna stab at oceanic, or that you dose calcium?

and i dont know about the KH so i'll let whoever else stab at that one..

I don’t dose calcium so I don’t know why it is so high the only thing I have added is a touch of iodine and phytoplankton. I do weekly 5g water changes. I buy natural sea water from lfs for $1 a gal.

i'd test the sea water that you're getting. I dont think that 475 would be toooo bad, but i could be wrong...

how about my N03 12.5mg/l=12.5ppm????? or so iv heard please correct me

ppm and mg/l are not the same thing i dont think...i'll see if i can find anything on that...but if they are the same, then 12 would not be that bad of a number, but should be brought down below 10...

also 12.5 ppm is bad right. i also have to get away from the tetra teats i think how r the RED SEA tests that is the calcium i have

ok well i did a google search and after lookin at 20 pages of "bla bla bla" (at least thats what it all looks like to me lol) of scientific lookin mumbo jumbo...i found this page..

somewhere on there it said this.
1 mg/kg or 1 mg/L = 1 ppm

as to your last question...for nitrates, less than 10 is what you wanna shoot for. ime, having 12 isnt really gonna start doing anything yet, but technically it could so its best to keep it down.

As for the tests...i only trust salifert brand, but i've never tried the red sea brand...but salifert seems to be the only one out of a bunch that i've tried that is consistently accurate.
