I'm currently running a Mag 7 as my return pump in my 70g. Although the pump works great, it's very noisy. Can anyone recommend a good alternative that will still give me the same flow and reliability?

should not be noisy. did you try turning it on it's side and then upright. Sounds like it might be cavitating. I have one on my 29g for a return and you can not hear it. Are you running it in the sump or external?

give it time and it will become quieter ( weeks- months) the pump has to wear down any of the unevness in the impeller

Mag7s are very noisy pumps. There have been many complaints about them (do a search). An Eheim 1260 is A LOT quieter, but does also have a lot more flow. If it is too much, you can put a ball valve on it to cut it back some.
