Hey gang,

My tank's done cycling finally, but the water is milky. I have about 40 lbs of aragacrete in there. Is it likely they are causing this? If so, I figure it will go away with water changes. My tank's parameter are:

SG- 1.024
Temp- 76
Amm- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 0
Phosphate- 0

The only living things are 22 lbs of live rock and five miniature hermit crabs. I'm running 25 tsp of carbon.

Thanks ahead of time

Scott

what do you have for filters? And how bout flow? And do you have a skimmer? Carbon will help clear it up a bit..but i dont know if that would fix whatever actually caused it.

You might be seeing a bacterial bloom or perhaps some sort of leaching or precipitation due to aragocrete. Alkalinity and calcium tests results might be useful.

Alkalinity test kit will be here tomorrow. My calcium test kit is completely unreliable (Nutrafin, shows I have 500+ ppm). Filtration consists of berlin sump, 100 micron filter sock, and the skimmer. There are sponges on the overflow and in the flowspace just prior to the pump chamber in the sump.

I didn't think about a bacterial bloom. There is a slight green tint to the water. Guess I'll do a 10% water change and see what happens.

Are you using Oceanic salt? That product is often very high in calcium.
