do i need special lighting in a FOWLR setup?

nope, just enough to keep the coraline alive.

yeah dont need much, jsut a NO bulb which is like 12 bucks and a NO hood.

You'll be fine with regular lighting (NO). If you eventually want to add corals down the road, you'll have to upgrade your lighting.

Just get a plain old FL unit and get some FLs for it. I use two 40 watt coralife FLs on my 75 and it gives off a fair amount of lights. ( 20k and 50/50 ) I got the unit from wal-mart for $7 or 8 bucks and it's lasted and worked for over a year.
