ok, i usually trust my LFS guy (because he's given pretty good advice in the past)....but yesterday they got a new shipment of corals in and i was asking about some low-light corals and inverts...he suggested a brain or clam...(i am running 2-65w 10000k's and 2-65w actinics for a total of 260watts)...the tank is a regular 75g (48"l x 21"h x 18"d)...what are some of your thoughts?

Depending on what type of brain (Trachyphyllia, Lobophyllia, Plerogyra, Colpophyllia, etc) it would probably do fine under the tank. Once again depending on the species of the clam, it would do fair with extreme care and a watchful eye. I wouldn't put anything but a T. deresa or T. squamossa under those lights. And honestly, I wouldn't put a clam under the lights. Just too risky for my taste.

I dio agree with Travis L. Stevens nevertheless I think it is even risky to put under those weak lights a T. Derasa or Squamosa. I think a minimum for any tridacna is 1 or more W/ litter of HQI of a right spectrum.

I've got a derasa that is supposed to be the less demanding having 150W HQI (16000 ºK) + 60 W actinic for a tank of 120 litters (1 m long) and I think it is just on the limit for the wellfare of this species (mantaining colors and growing)

I feed mine with a pair of long tongs. They look like giant tweezers. I got them at a LFS, I bet you could search online venders and find them.

i used to feed mine flakes by putting my arm halfway down into the tank then releasing the flakes into the water (with pumps off of course)...the food would sink down and the anemone would gather it up
