Drip Acclimation:

When you first get your fish in the bags, than float them in the tank for 15-20 minutes. Than put the fish and the bagged water only in a bucket or container. Than get an airline tubing and hang it from the maintank to the bucket or container. Than slowly drip the water into the bucket. ( around 6 drops a second ) This will slowly get the fish use to the main tank water and put less stress on them.

Drip Acclimation is definately the best way to go. Usually when I siphon the water it comes out too fast so I had to get a lil drip valve that works perfectly. Good luck!

Just tie a knot in the line but make it a little loose so water still gets through it.

The real answer... not that the advice above is bad... is that it depends on the differences between the water the fish is in, and the water he's going into. I test three quanties.... pH, salinity, and temperature. If these are radically different, you acclimate slower and for a longer period. If they are the same, acclimation can be more rapid to reduce the stress of confinement.

Andrew,
Thanks for the advice, I wish I thought of that!

or you can put a ball valve at the end of 1/8 inch tubing

you can get them at home depot etc, or if you have a RO/DI device, there's usually an extra one in the package

I use a 2 1/2 gallon tank, a length of air tube, and a small air tube valve.
