From looking at a photo ID site, it appears he was an amphinoid (fireworm). Do this seem right to you? I have been having zoanthids, xenia, and other soft corals go missing for the last six months within a foot of the rock I found him in. My tank has quite a few hydriods that I suppose kept him fed, too.

No. that's an eunicid and from the evidence a nasty one as well. There are a couple of members here who like big worms & might want to adopt it if you haven't gotten rid of it yet.

Thanks for the info! I looked up the photos and articles for eunicid and that is what I found. It looks like an old copy of reefkeeping has an article on them:

Unfortunately, I have already gotten rid of it. I thought about setting up a 20G tank in my garage for a few days to see if anybody wanted it first, but it seemed like too much work. Sorry about that if anybody out there wanted something like this. He was a beautiful if somewhat terrifying looking critter.
