Several people in the Lehigh Valley Area belong to NCPARS - North Central Pennsylvania Area Reef Society. The meeting usually rotate to different areas.

I live in Northampton about 2 miles from something fishey. Philly is just too far for me to go. Anything in the Allentown, Bethlehem area?

If not maybe we should start our own little club. I know there has got to be some reefers around here!!!

fours2many --- the philly club is actually closer than ncpars.... many people have left ncpars due to a lot of problems.

i know there are a few people on todds website --toofishy.com that have been getting together. i live in the area and would be interested if a club forms around here.

well how many committed to the time? sunday afternoon is just tough.

did you guys discuss plans?

i hope the future club is very informal, similar to how the philly reefers do things. simply for members to get togther occassionally and trade some corals, have a drink etc. primarily to setup a network of "help" in the area. we definetly do not need to spend $2000 for non-profit status to enrich our reefing experience.

Another idea i had was to purchase books, videos etc, that belong to the club. we can circulate it around to members. i was a member of a bonsai/koi club that did this. a very useful resource.

i talked to Todd/SF and we can place flyers on there door to inform others of our intent. We can also setup a club forum on there website, toofishy.com.

Even if we just have a club so that we are all aware of other reefers in the allentown area, i personally think that would be a good thing. we all have busy lives, so often it is diff. to formally get together.

i personally will donate lord / micro frags and possibly a pair of hybrid snowflake clowns to future endeavors of the club.

Allentown Reefers Club (ARC)?

Im up for a LVRC or something similar. I live just a few short blocks away from Something Fishy and head over there almost every weekend

LVRC is good also :)

we could just have informal gatherings at SF in Todd s back room sat. mornings etc lol

hey all,
ncpars is having a frag swap on nov 4th in reading, there is more imfo on ncpars.org and the ncpars forum.yes ncpars has had some "growing pain's"but we are trying to work ahead of those pains. presently we are actively working on a 2007 schedule to give members more hope then they have received in the past.the events we are working on are a few trips and the next swap date and location and these events will cover from now till late march.
thank you

TomRep

We didn't really discuss too many plans, just when we could have another get together date where more people could attend. I'm not sure when this will be, we will probably set it all up on a page similar to this (or the same one) when we get there. Dave (kelled2) is going to be having a busy November, so I don't know if we will shoot for December or sometime in the new year. Keep the ideas coming though. They will be helpful in making a club that everyone can enjoy.

great Tom,

we have each others emails also. if you have time, register a name on Todds site. toofishy.com i will ask him to set up a forum for us.

did you guys think of a temp. name for the club? since you guys were the ones to attend, i think the honor should be yours.

brad,
the "growing pains" ncpars has had is a big part of why we need a local club. the only time i felt welcome to ncpars is when i wrote a check for the membership dues or spent money at the swap. anytime someone from this area wanted to have something here we heard things like we were trying to steal the club. i put money in the club and was never told where it went.

the club spent thousands on getting npo status and what good did that do???

the area has enough ---local--- people here to form a club here that can meet more than twice a year..... (for frag swaps)

TomRep
10/23/2006, 12:37 PM
Hey Huey! Yes, I still have your e-mail and also I believe I am registered on Todd's site, atleast I used to be (same name as on here). We didn't decide on a name or anything because we weren't sure if this would even go through. With only us showing up and no responses from those who said they would be there, we were starting to have reservations on if this would be a "hit" or not.

Also, on an NCPARS note, I never really felt mistreated by anyone, but I feel the club is too spread out. Lokking on the club pages here on RC for them, when something goes up for sale or trade, you have no idea if your driving right down the road or up to State colleg for a pick up. JMO

Doesn't really matter to me. It could possibly be Allentown Area Reef Members or something like that beings I'm from Reading and have a feeling I could possibly get some people together down here for the club. Just a thought. Well, back to work for me. I won't be able to respond to the thread until sometime tonight. Keep the ideas rolling!!

Yes, we are spread out Tom, you're right that's an issue. I think we should have more clubs with stuff going on, and hopefully there can be some cross-fertilization at some point. In State College we have maybe 10 reefers (that we know of!) and so we didn't bother to formalize a club here (we just meet at the PSU tank), and we're used to driving a while. But that makes for wanting to do things just a couple of times per year. Good luck getting your group going! [As an aside, one of the things I think we are going to do this winter is put NCPARS members from the same are in touch with each other for small meetings, and I know there are some people from the Allentown/Reading area, so maybe some of them will also have some contact with you from the start. ]
