IYO, wat is the best snail to buy for controlling algea? also what else works well against algea? I have 4 blue legged hermits + 2 turbo snails in my 12 gal. nano, but they dont seem to do anything. I added 4 atrea snails today and 1 emerald crab that will hopefully help.

Saint Louis! WooHoo! Depends on the type of algae you want to get rid of. Nutrient export is the best way to rid you tank of it, imo. RO/DI water, fuge w/macro, feed less. All things that will help in the long run. I've had success with Astreas, Nassarius, and Cerith. Not necessarily all for algae, but they do a good job with the cleanup.

How old is the tank?

go for trochus snails, there mowing cyano down for me. but dont make much impression on the hair algea.
