Has anyone tried to use silicone with sand and shell frags on the back of thier tank? Local fish store in Salt Lake City suggested it. Sound like it would work for neat backing, but I though I would see if anyone had tried it before. We are looking at putting it on our new 120. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Here's an idea:

I think they are using one of those spray foam products for their back wall.

Thanks A lot Umm, fish. Looks like a really neat idea. I think that it may be easier than the other way. I will keep you posted as to how it works if I try it.

Is there any store other than the aquarium in SLC? Incredible pets staff is nice to look at, or at least they used to be, but I never found a really good store other than the aquarium.

LOL The Aquarium is a sweet store for sure! I use to shop at Marine Aquatics when I lived in SLC and The Aquarium. I like Marine Aquatics because Eric helped me out a bunch and I always got help as soon as I came in the door. I only got to see The Aquarium's new store a few times as I moved back to CO soon after it opened. I have been to most of the shops in UT. It's been a long time since I was at Aquatica in Orem but it was kind of cool You may want to check that one out also.

Is the foam in the water? Because I would almost guarantee that water in some way will eventually break down the foam and release some nasty chemicals in the water.

Yep. Go check out the thread. There's a long discussion about it. Apparently this type of foam doesn't turn into a problem (inert when it cures or something).

The thread does say the faom is inert. The listing on Dr. foster and Smith. Try looking up Black pond foam. It looks like a rally good idea. IF you read the article they got the idea from a tank that had been previously done with no problems. I am going to order and try some to see how it works. Thanks again umm, fish for the idea.

May not have been your idea, but the research was done by you. Might have saved me a lot of problems and hopefully will look great. Also like some of the threads have stated, At least this one is not for anything for sale or to buy...

closed cell foam is water proof and used in boats, docks and all kinds of other water applications. It expands when mixed together. I used it in my Jeep for waterproofing areas that water might sit in and cause rust. I have 1 almost full quart at home I will sell at a discount.

Well, shucks. It wasn't really research. It's a thread I've been subscribed to for a year(?) and there had been a new post that day.

But anyway, good luck and post pics when you can!
