Do cucumbers shed? I saw my cucumber shedding a bunch of skin and eating it. Is this normal?

Cool! It's not shedding in the normal sense like an arthropod would but they slough off mucous from time to time and it looks like this species doesn't wast the nutrients by eating it. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Nice photo, too!

Wow - mine is doing the exact same thing. My lights are out though and the flash just can't bring out the detail - just dark on dark. Glad to see it's not uncommon though! This is the best shot I could get of it. The darker area is where the cuke has eaten off the skin-like layer...
