Anyone with any opinions? Is potassium permanganate, when used to raise ORP values, a good or bad thing? Fitz.

IMO bad...you might as well be adding bleach to your tank.

i would avoid it. potassium permanganate is a powerful oxidizing agent.

"Liquid Ozone" :) I'll add that I too think it is BAD.

If against the comments here you do decide to use it I would suggest that you need an ORP monitor (just as with ozone) to be able to monitor dosage (just dumping in what a manufacturer says is IMO asking for trouble).

The old folks used to use this as a sterilizer for vegetables. It kills a number of gushy critters/internal parisites of humans, etc. I don't think this would be real beneficial for a system designed to keep gushy sea critters alive.
