View Full Version : OT - How to get rid of a SKUNK

As I am sitting out on my back patio, drinking a cup of coffee with my laptop on my lap, reading RC, the elusive skunk that lives in the area just walked right by about 10 feet away from me without a care in the world. I followed him to see where he went and watched as my neighbor's and my suspicions were confirmed. He lives under my neighbor's front step.

He does need to go because he's pretty trigger happy. Almost nightly I get a nice whiff of skunk whether my windows are open or closed. Also, my neighbor's cat was sprayed last week and my neighbor has walked out his front door and had some close calls a couple of times.

How can we get rid of him without hurting him? If possible, I'd like him to seek out a new home somewhere else, hopefully less populated. Is there a way of driving him out of his hole and making it so he will not want to retry the same spot? Help...

I would call a game warden and find out what they say

Ya, your local animal control folks should be able to trap it. That, or a well placed pellet from a pellet gun will do. ;)

I have the same problem here. My dog has gotten sprayed twice this year. I read online that you can buy powdered fox urine and sprinkle it around but haven't tried it yet. There were also sites that claimed the powder to be ineffective. If you find something that works please post a follow up.

pellet gun or the non lethal approach of a paintball gun might run him off

7 MM Mag would be way more fun then a pellet gun or paint ball gun. Plus you could shoot him from plenty of distance and not get sprayed :D

Why only go with a 7mm. Go bigger.

I want to watch, from a distance, the poor sucker who live traps this thing, transport it and let it go without getting sprayed.

I've got a .340 Weatherby Magnum that I could add to the list of lead throwing devices for the skunk but there wouldn't be anything left of it for you to fry up :D

It has 280gr bullet with 3200 fps and 4800ft/lbs of muzzle energy :eek2:

Puts a hurtin' on your shoulder after a few shots while sighting it in.

@ sammie I was thinking the same thing... once you trap it who's the guy that is going to go pick up and transport the trap?

I was thinking the same thing!!!

:hmm2: I forgot how different the gun laws are around here.
Most people think that NY is dangerous... You guys are nuts!:uzi:
Ideally, we want to leave my neighbors house standing....
I might try the animal control/game warden route first.

paintball gun... lol scare it into the neighbor's yard in designer colors; lots o colors to choose from too!

I am with everyone else; we use a 30-06 bolt, .223 ar-15 hbar, 7.62x54 sniper, .40 s&w, .22 mag, even a regular .22; but unless you are a extremely good shot, my experience w/ pellets is that it unless you kill it, you have an extremely ticked off immobilized stinkly animal in your' yard!

Call PETA; have them come get it!!!

use a .22 and load it with c b shells. no one will hear a thing and i can promise a dead skunk as long as you make a good shot. you arent going to live trap him and not have him spray. might not get you but he will spray the inside of the cage he is in.

I like the PETA idea, I'd pay to watch that..

give critter control a call. they'll charge you but that's better than being sprayed :)

I'm with zepplin let's do it the Knob Creek way. How much alcohol do you think they had before that fun began.

How about a mini crossbow. I had one a few years ago. It was a powerful little thing.
