Sun corals receeding

I've got three different species of sun coral on the same rock. They get fed brine and cyclopeeze nightly, each individual polyp gets fed. The problem is that on the top rim of several of the sun polyps the white skeleton is showing. Those polyps still eat, but I'm worried, I don't like the fact that they look like they're starting to receed. Any ideas why?

How shady of a spot are they in? I know they love the shade. If they keep eating I would continue to feed them.

They're not in a shady spot as I don't have one, I've got them under stock 24 gallon nano cube lighting though, shouldn't be too terribly bright I wouldn't think.

Has the tissue died or just bleached? Also IMO brine is worthless to feed and CE is not big enough. Get some mysis or make a sea food mush. Brine has no nurtional value

Tease it with cyclopeeze and then spot feed it mysis. I would try to make a shady spot. If the top is the only part that is bleaching it sounds like to much light.

Shade does not matter. Substance matters though when you feed them. Brine and cylops won't be enough matter to feed them and fill them. You need at least mysis along with other meatier foods.

I will start feeding mysis Thursday...I'm getting ready to move the tank 3 hours and I will be MUCH closer to an LFS that carries mysis than I am now!

I've had really good success feeding with a cheap homemade mixture. I buy a few ounces of shrimp, scallops, mussel, clam and squidd. I chop it in a food processor VERY fine, add some frozen cyclopeeze, selcon and zoecon. I spread it thin and freeze. Every other day i break off a small piece to thaw and feed with a syringe under a small tupperware bowl.
Works great and only cost about 3 dollars for 3 months of food.

Local grocerie store. Larger retail chain stores have the better prices. I know Wal-Marts and Meijers around me here in Ohio have a pre-packaged mix with all the contents in it for a few bucks.

Local grocery store. Here in south Florida its Publix. I told the guy to give me the least amount he could sell me of each. Each package was between like .30-.75 cents. The squidd was the most as they didnt have any small pieces but the shrimp and scallop were insanely cheap.

Ok, next question:

if I start feeding these guys proper nutritious food, will they come back?

Hopefully, unless the recession is REALLY bad, you should be able to bring it back with good water and feedings.
