The clown you sounds like a female since shes been alone for so long so you will need a smaller clown ( male ) to add to the tank.

You cant put two females in the same tank... they will fight constantly. All clowns start out males and then the more aggressive one becomes the female

Once a clown becomes a female, it cannot go back. Its a one way trip.

my assumption w/regards to males is:
If i have one clown alone for a year its female.
If my friend has 3 the largest is female, other 2 are male
so I could add his 2 smaller ones w/my lager one ????

You can get two males but they may fight some unless the larger of the two turns into the female.
