I have a beautiful brain coral (Brain Coral, Trachyphyllia ) for ovwr a year and a hlf now. A while ago, my yellow polyps began to propogate next to it. Now it seems that the brian corals colors are faded and the flesh is drawing back off the edge of the skeleton on the side of the yello wpolyps which touched it.

At first, I would trim back the yello wpolyps. but they kept coming baack. Now I decided to move the brain.

Question... any chance that the brain coral's flesh will grow back onto the skeleton where it receded ? is it likely to die off ?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Allen

Got a pic? Hard to tell. Some brains make it, MOST do not depending on how bad the recession is. Doesn't matter what caused it now. How bad is it?

not too bad.. just the edge if the skeleton is receeding maybe 1/4 inch.

Just keep an eye on it, feed it when you see the feeder tentacles, and keep it out of high wateflow.

Yeah unfortunately most open brains dont fare well when tissue is damaged. Best thing to do is cover it while feeding, keep hermit crabs away, and put in low flow area. If you have tangs or angels, make sure u place some algae around tank for them to graze on instead of nipping lps. Good luck.
