filtration alternative

Okay folks...my wife doesn't like the idea of me building a cabinet beside our 110 gallon tank that sits in the middle of the room as a see through wall.

The new cabinet would house a a sump with a protein skimmer. However, I do not have room for a sump and skimmer combo under the tank. So...what other alternatives would I have?

If you have room for a sump... then you should be able to fit a skimmer into the sump. Truthfully if I had to choose, I would get a REALLY good skimmer and stay with water changes.

I guess I was not clear, I will not be able to fit a sump under the tank. what are my alternatives? a canister? or am I screwed?

Oh, and I cannot do the hang on the side thing.
