I have been seeing many colorful & what I assume to be Japanese or Taiwanese Lords but they are being called Micros. Poly sizes sare large 3/4 -1 inch.

I thought all Micros max out at the size of a fingernail?

Examples can be seen at the bottom of this link

under micromussa

I've had some micros with huge polyps, and some lords with small polyps. Depends on origin, I would think.

Peace,

Chip

I would agree with Chip here.

There are some crazy color morphs on that link above. He sure has a nice collection.

I agree with Randy and Chip.

I would like to know why some lords have polyps the sizes of half dollars. They look amazing no matter if they are Non-Indo. Once I get my camera bacl I will take a picture to show what I mean.

It's Jaw dropping, but for 600.00 that polyp better know how to use a magfloat :D

Everyone keeps calling it a micro... (fish is 1.2 inches)
Iam actually leaning towards Maxima?

I don't think that frag is a maxima. That clown goby would have to be 4-5 inches long to straddle two A.maxima polyps.

Acanthastrea maxima have corallites 2 inches wide, and the open fleshy mantle can reach 4 inches wide.

These Green, grey or brown corals are only found in Oman, and I have yet to see one in Captivity in this hemisphere, though many claim to have one.

Here is Veron's description of A. maxima

Characters: Colonies are cerioid with corallites up to 50 millimetres diameter. Septa are coarsely toothed. Polyps have a fleshy mantle up to 100 millimetres diameter and with a Lobophyllia–like texture. Colour: Green, grey or brown. Similar species: Symphyllia wilsoni. The fleshy mantles are more extensive than those of any other Acanthastrea. Acanthastrea ishigakiensis has slightly smaller polyps. Habitat: Known only from moderately deep, turbid water. Abundance: Rare.

Looks like you got yourself a lordhowensis. If it doesn't grow for you, then maybe it's a Non-Indo lord. I have a very similar color morph.

Just my opinion

Objects up close in a photograph will appear larger than objects in the back.

Your blasto polyps in the back appear larger than the red coral in front.

Those blasto polyps are about 2 inches across...

This frag is ravenous & seems to be growing allready from a much larger polyp I cut.

looks like the same morph. Are the heads as large as a medium blastomussa?

julioperez01

the heads when fully expanded are actually larger than most blastomussas i've seen

Yep same one :)
Does yours grow quickly?

julioperez01

What is the best light to keep those under?

djmuzzi

mine are 1 foot under a 150 hqi. You can gradually expose them to more & more light. That is where I keep my blastomussas also
