question about my brains

I have an open and a closed brain. My question i do they need to be on a rock in order to grow out and attach themselves to, or do they develop their own skeleton as they grow? Right now both are on the sand bottom.

The usual place is to have them sitting right on the sand bottom. They will be fine.
