Hi everyone!

I ordered a orange montipora plate coral from marine depot.

It came covering a rock (no plating yet).

The marinedepotlive.com site does not show what lighting and current it needs.

Where should I put this in the tank?

I take it this is orange cap. Pick an area where you'd like a shelf-shaped coral, and wedge it sideways into the rockwork. It will like light and strong flow, and will rapidly reshape itself to grow cuplike out and up.

What kind of light are you running? I have 3 caps under T5's and they are growing like crazy.

Make sure you don't place the cap where it plate/shelf over another coral and block light from getting to another coral.

Needs less lighting then other SPS, but being an SPS it still needs a good amount of light. Mine do well in the bottom section of my tank, I have a 75 gallon (20" deep i believe?) with 2x 250w halides. It is also convenient with them near the bottom because they won't end up shading other corals. High flow to make sure nothing settles on them.

Thank everyone!

My lighting is 250 watt metalhalide and 2 55 watt powercompact blue attintics. I wedged him in mid tank sideways in strong turbulent water flow.

I hope that does the trick.

Sounds like you are good to go! Once they get settled the grow quick and look awesome! Have fun watching them grow!

That lighting is exactly what I have and mine is growing like a bandit.

look at the lower left coral on Sunnyx's TOTM. That is a montipora capricornus, and yes they can get that big, FAST! Mine likes lower light, moderate current, enough to keep detritus from settling. Keep alk and calcium in check with regular supplementation and testing, if you don't run a reactor.
