What exact brand bulbs did you have and are you going to have? That makes a big difference.

i had an Aqualine 20,000k and i'm getting the XM 14,000k, not 15,000k like i said befpre. i know it won't be as blue/ but i was jsut wondering if there would be a huge difference.

What ballasts, too? I can;'t get a direct comparison, but it looks like with a 250W 20K AB on a PFO M80 ballast, the par is around 57 (don't quote me, though, I already closed the page...). For an XM 15K SE on a M58 ballast, the par is about the same.

If you are going with an XM, I would just stick with the 20K. The par on the XM 15K is really low, it may actually be lower than the 20K XM.

There's no doubt about that...the XM20Ks have a lot more par than the XM15Ks.

well my corals have been losing color so i don't think that's a bad thing. i think the hqi was way too bright for them. i'll just see what happens

The HQI's do something that causes lightening. It seems like many of my aros are sunburnt. They pick up some incredible colors, but it almost doesn't look natural. They adjust over time, though, just longer than under SE's.
