I just got a sun coral...about 8 polyps left and whole bunch skeleton. Should I break off the skeleton now? Or should I wait until it settle down in my tank?

Thanks!

leave the skeleton and it may overgrow the old skeleton.

Thanks for the reply!

Is it ok to brush the old skeleton (there are some algae like thing on it)? Would it bother the coral too much and over stress them?

Thanks again!

I would leave it, at least until it gets settled a little. Where did you get it?

The coral are doing great. Every polyps open and ate...even the half dead one!

But I did break the skeleton off. I took it out of the bag and this REALLY foul smell were coming from it. First, I thought it was coming off the dead on, so I took a screw driver and a hammer and got to work. After a few strike, it cracked open and the smell got even stronger...there it was in the skeleton - dead clams. There were few of them and one made me cracked one polyps of the coral in half. Everything is going pretty good now. Thanks!
