not sure what kind it is....i found it in my sump......its actually 2 starfish now....the other half of it has 4 big legs and one small one...lol

it looks like an asterena, (spelling) some are good some are bad. the propagate by shedding limbs and growing a whole new starfish

Not sure what kind of star it might be, but what you are seeing is typical reproduction for linkia seastars.

Definitely not Asterina. It is most likely Linckia multiflora or similar, IMO. Not at all uncommon for that species of Linckia to do very well in such a tank. This is called a "commet" star where 1 "mature" arm broke off the adult and is regenerating the remaining arms.

The guy at the lfs said those starfish multiply like crazy. They can have from 2 to 6 legs.
