Hi All-
Was just wondering if MRI images are mirror images or reversed images? Had a MRI recently I'm not sure if the left and right are labeled correctly or even if it's possible to label them wrong. So if there are any Radiogists, tech or Doctors out there that know the answer I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks Dee

all of the images from the machines are printed in the same orientation
it depends on the image
if in the coronal plane, the image is like you are looking at the person face to face, ie the portion of the image on the far left of the picture is that person's right side
sagittal view, the front of the person is on the left
axial...its like a crosssection , you are looking up from the feet towards the head, and the person's right is on the left side of the image

Thanks so much for your help! One more question though. So if I went in head first the axial view would be reversed ie my left in the machine would be my right on the image? Am I understanding you correctly
Thanks so much again ~Dee~

Thanks again and I know I'm being a pest but I really think they screwed up the labeling on my MRI and before I make a complete A$$ of myself I want to be sure. So one more question - Now that I have it strait so if my left in the machine appears on the right of the film shouldn't it be labeled my left and not my right?
If the machince was set up for someone to go in feet first the images would be reversed correct but the labeling of L&R would remain the same?
I know you probably think I crazy but I have a peek cage and srews in my back and on all my imaging studies the cage is angled toward my left screw and on this MRI it's angled to the right.
Thanks again:D Dee

You bring up a very legitimate question. I would ask your doc who ordered the scan to have the radiologist look it over to make sure.
This is a huge issue for me personally. I always receive/review scans that are in the incorrect fashion--ie. the images are reversed. I usually catch it, but it only takes one time to operate on someone's wrong side to get sued. When that happens, I'm taking the radiologist down with me. :) I've been told too many times that it "can't be fixed."

Hey Otolith-
So I'm not crazy! I was also told that it's suppose to say somewhere on the MRI feet first -head first prone or supine and I can't seem to find it there are so many numbers and abr. So if I was suppose to go in feet first then my images would be backwards since she made me go in head first which I've never had to do.
I'm having a lot of nerve issues on my right side and so if these are backwards then they're not going to catch it because they aren't looking on my left side and then they'll schedule me for a myelogram.
Thanks again for everything!:D ~Dee~
