Hi,

I have been out of the hobby for a while and I am hoping to get some help. I have been reading a lot of the posts on this site and I am grateful for the information.
I am setting up a 100gal system with a limited budget. From what I have read and looking at the pictures the Octopus skimmers seem like a real bargin. Now that people have been using the for a little while...are they a good skimmer?? Which would be better - the nw150 or the shredder? They are both rated for up to 250gal.
Thanks for any input you may have.

Bump, I want to know as well. Will need to upgrade skimmer shortly and have the same question and same sized tank.

I don't know anything about the Shredder, nor have I read any posts from anyone using one. I do however, use a NW 150 and I'm very satisfied. Mine started producing within a day.

From what I have read, the shredder is an 8" diameter, 24" tall skimmer. I don't really understand how it works or why it's less expensive than the NW200 which is the same size. I do know the needlewheel models work VERY well so I would either save $50 and buy the NW150 or spend a little more and get the NW 200. Keep in mind that these are in-sump only. You could also consider one of the recirc models that can be used outside a sump.

The shredder is a venturi unit, from what I understand.

the shredder uses a straight venturi rather than a combo venturi needlewheel.
