Finger Leather Shedding?

I have had my finger leather for about 6 weeks and it appears to go through shedding phases where it shrinks up and sheds a skin or film like substance. Just curious as to whether this is a sign of growth or something else?

That is normal behavior for leather corals. They shed the film as a way to remove detritus and other irritants from the surface skin. If the coral is constantly waxing, however, it may be a sign that something is bothering the coral. ;)
