We want a 40 or so gallon wide tank made of acrylic. Our plan is to divide the tank in half using a slotted panel so we can keep a peacock mantis shrimp with live rock on one side, and have the other be standard reef dwellers.

We need the acrylic because the mantis shrimp can breakglass. By sharing a common water supply we only need one skimmer, heater, pump, etc...

Suggestions (either to buy or avoid) and other thoughts?

I have a 20g version of the same thing. I used black acrylic and siliconed it into a glass tank.

I don't believe that a peacock is going to be able to crack a 40g glass tank. You can confirm with Dr. Roy in the mantis forum. If you are particularly worried I would suggest laying a piece of acrylic on the glass under the sand bed. This will minimize the strikes on the bottom which is where the peacock is most likely to strike unless it is just a mis-strike at a meal.

Guess I could include a picture or two...
