They are probably all the same. There is an article in advanced reefkeeping that tests the performance b/w rowa and phosban and they are pretty much the same... since pura phoslock is essentially the same as phosban, it should perform similarly. :)

There is supposedly another product out that seems very promising and has a different mechanical structure (pelleted form) that allows better access of water to the surface of the material so it should theoretically give better results. :) The product is called warner marine's Phosar.

Peace,
John H.

drs foster and smith eevn have their own house brand of phosphate remover that appears to be the same as phoslock, phosban and rowaphos.

if you look at the chemical make up of these products, you will find they are pretty much all the same.

i use pura phoslock, but will switch to the foster and smith brand due to cost reasons.

horkn...

That stuff looks exactly like Rowa to me. Does anybody know if it is in fact the same thing, only much, much cheaper?

Peace,
John H.

I was using Rowa and switched to the foster and smith brand - haven't noticed any difference between the two

Thanks for the info. It is soooo much cheaper. It's pretty ridiculous. :)

i just started using the phospure (drsfostersmith version) with zeolite and carbon and ive been happy with it so far. according to the label it removes phosphate, ammonia, heavy metals, and toxins and wont leach back into tank when exhausted.

How often do you change it and how can you tell its expired its usage?

How about kent's phosphate sponge?

it says on the label to change it monthly... it also says for infrequently serviced filters to use 3 times the amount. i only planned on running it for a week out of the month and then replace with just carbon for the rest of the month.
