View Full Version : when to start doing water changes?

Hi i have a 24g aquapod. its now been setup for a month my water params are ph 8.3 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate between 10-20 and it has stayed that way the nitrate dont got up at all. i got the brown algae now for about 2 weeks so got a clean up crew and there taking care of that. when should i start doing water changes and how much should i change?

I would definitely start. There are many water change schedules that people use. 20% twice a month, 10% twice a month, 20% once a month, etc. Since the tank is new, I'd probably for for 20% twice a month for a while, at least.

Water changes are very important in a small environment. Changes of up to 50% are fine in the beginning. Typically a 10-20% change every week is perfect for a nano.

so is my cycle done yet? when can i add my 2 clown fish?

I would wait for three weeks of zero ammonia before adding any fish.
