Are the tunze pumps (6060) adjustable or is the output fixed? I know that it is not adaptable to a controller. I am thinking of adding this to my 55 gallon reef for better flow I am just afraid that 1600 gph might be to much. I see that the 6000 is adjustable with a controller but neither of them mention if they can be adjusted manually. Any suggestions ?

I don't know the answer. I don't think the 6060 is adjustable at all. It may be, though. I'd ask this question in the Tunze forum.

No, the 6060 is not adjustable and yes, I think it will be too much for a 55. I have one on my 110 and I think it is almost too much for it. Took two days to get it located so it wouldn't blow everything over or cause a Sahara sandstorm.

The image of the sahara sand storm and then looking at your avatar made me laugh :D

The 6060 is not adjustable and I have one in my 55. You are limited in your placement options but it can be done.

mufret,

Is the flow pretty violent or is it just good and strong. I was thinking of placing it at the end where the overflow is at about center of the tank height. Where is yours located?

I have one in my 55 and it can really only be mounted on the ends but I thing it provides good flow and it is not to much.No its not controllable.

If you are going to have a 6060 in a 55 (IMHO it's way too much) you are going to have to mount it on one end preferably with a mag mount and point it against the front or back wall no farther than halfway across the tank. That's what I had to do with the one on my 110 and it's a lot of flow even for this big of a tank unless you have a tank with nothing but SPS. Tunze is coming out with the nanostream that would probably work well with smaller tanks. Otherwise you are going to have to go with a 6000 with a controller.

Would a 6000 w/ a controller let me dial it down to less than 1600 gph?

The flow rate of the 6000 is 660 to 1849 gph, so yes. The 6000 is also upgradable to a 6100 with a new transformer.
