Hi All,
I am redoing the plumbing on my 240g reef. Was originally a closed system so it has a large built in overflow/sump. Over the years everything got moved into the basement, need to put it all back into the tank upstairs (house remodel).
I noticed on a few posts about closed loop (CL) systems, that people are now not re-circulating water from the overflow, but rather from a bulkhead fitting in the tank to another elsewhere. This is new to me. What is/are the reasons? Not having a large built in sump? Or not wanting to re-circulate the high protein concentration which the over flow collects, so that it can be better filtered (skimmed)?
I got an Ampmaster 3k a few weeks ago, but not sure yet how to plumb.
Thanks
