randy..

washing soda is sodiom carbonate
baking soda is sodium bicarbonat.

is arm and hammer "all natural super wasing soada" safe? says 100 % fragrence and phosphate free> but is there anything else in it besides sodium carbonate..

am i correct that both are the same except that bicarbonate has an element of co2?

so if i want to allow the ph ot raise a little when i want to add buffer then use the washing soda?

thanks

never mind randy to qoute your from another thread

"If you want to raise pH, you can bake the baking soda at 300 deg F for 1 h before dissolving it in fresh water to dose. That converts it into washing soda (sodium carbonate), and may be better than using washing soda itself since washing soda is not a food grade material and may have more impurities in it.

What is the chemical formula of
washing soda and
baking soda ?

NaHCO3 (Baking soda) and Na2CO3 (washing soda), roughly, but both may have some moisture in them, and both may have some amount of the other form in them.

To add

They both will produce CO2 when dissolved in water. I equivalent unit of Washing Soda/Soda Ash, yields 2 equivalent units of Alk and 1 equivalent unit of CO2. 1 equivalent of Baking Soda yields 1 equivalent unit of Alk and 1 equivalent unit of CO2. So, washing soda will have a much greater impact on pH and Alk.

In Alk terms 1 CO3--, like that from Washing Soda, yields 2 HCO3- . Where as 1 HCO3- from Baking Soda yields, well, just 1 HCO3-

since. revieviwing.. several .. threads..looks like there is a possibility of some type of additives to the ashing soda.. so sticking with the baking soda and cooking large batches of itin the oven.....

thanks

Yes that is correct and it is not food grade even when it is pure and many can not find it, so just make your own ;)

is arm and hammer "all natural super wasing soada" safe

And yes, this is the safe one.

I dose with washing soda or baked baking soda. Regular baking soda will lower your ph so i use washing soda which will raise my ph and alk at the same time. If you have some baking soda you can cook it in an over at 300 degrees for about an hour to make baked baking soda.

Regular baking soda will lower your ph

That will only be temporally, until the CO2 is blown off then it will go back up. BK has a pH of about 8.3. WS will/can often overboost the Alk
