President Bush on Thursday created the world's largest marine protected area — a group of remote Hawaiian islands that cover 84 million acres and are home to 7,000 species of birds, fish and marine mammals, at least a quarter of which are unique to Hawaii.

apparently it's gonna go under national monument status so permanent funding and can't be overturned by anyone in the future

It is about time he did something good for future generations.

If your intent is to have this thread closed by adding political comments - you're very close to your goal.

Why was this thread broken and censored? I did not get to read what people had to say about this issue. Was there foul-language or just mere opinions?

Both. People went off topic.
Apparently, it's difficult for some to stay focused.

I'm very thankful for President Bush's decision.
Thank you, Mr. President.

Think nothing of it...

Why think nothing of it? Thats ridicalious.

Even if you are a Michael Moore type or a liberal, its sheer nonsense to say that what Bush did is nothing. He is protecting that largest ocean sancatuay in the world by decalring it a monument. How can that be nothing if it is truly for the better of that region. Is this a no satisfying of the liberal party once again? Forget the politics of it all if you are against Bush, think of what has been done.

lbrty9 was taking credit for this from the beginning of the post, that's all. 'Think nothing of it' was another way of saying, 'no problem', 'you're welcome'. Easy Chris! :D

It is interesting is that it was made a National Monument and is therefore in the Department of the Interior. NOAA and the National Marine Sanctuary program it administers is under the Department of Commerce. As I understand it, NOAA is charged with overseeing the new monument and enforcing the regulations. It’s interesting that they set it up that way.
