I'm thinking about Glacier National Park for a family vacation this year. Our focus will be mild to medium difficulty hiking, probably some fishing and lots of photography. There are several options for lodging within the park but I'm not sure which area puts us in an spot that accommodates what we're after while putting car use to a minimum.

Who's been there recently?

When I was there 1-2 campers had just gotten eaten by a grizzly
bear. The girl was heard to scream out "Oh my God he's eating me!" before she died.

But that wasn't recent - was probably like 1967 or something. A very very beautiful place, though...but watch out for bears.

They were camping way, way, way off the beaten path, BTW...at least that's what my parents told me. ;)

It's in Montana and straddles the US/Canada border.

watch out for the crazy canucks running around. maybe you can use them as bear bait?

You'll enjoy it, plenty of good hiking. The crowds aren't nearly as bad as Yellowstone National Parkinglot. There are bears around, but, to be honest, there are bears anywhere worth hiking. You'll be fine if you take the usual precautions.

The lodges are beautiful but expensive as always. You might be able to find a motel in a surrounding town like Babb, but I'm not sure.

Here's a sampler. I exposed for the landscape,so I should probably plug them into photoshop and bring out the sky and the background more.

Hi -

I was there four years ago - its a great park! We spent two nights car camping. We stopped here on our way to yellowstone. DHyslop's right alot less crowded.

I fly fish. I fished the lake in DHyslop's first photo. AWESOME!
