hi everyone

im in trouble with calcium and magnesium

my calcium is about 380 ppm but magnesium is 1600 ppm

magnesium is very high , what will i do ?

how can i decrease the magnesium and increase the CA.

and what parameters should they be

i have 1 bubble coral,1 leather coral, 1 giant mushroom, polyps and rose bta in the tank

but my bubble coral doesnt seem happy

thanks...

How do you measure magnesium ?
What salt do you use ?
Did you dose any Mg additive ?

If the testing is right just let Mg be, eventual water changes (If your salt is not high in Mg) and consumption will bring it down to the normal level of 1300.
You can increase Calcium to 420 ppm using Calcium Chloride (ESV or TurboCalcium, Dowflake or Peladow).
Use the Chemistry Calculator to determine how much to use.

I agree. First you have find out , why Mg is so high.

Water change is the way to decrease Mg, but I your salt have so high Mg, it will not helps.

The only way to reduce magnesium,if you end up needing to do that, is to do water changes or wait for it to very, very slowly drop on its own while not adding any more.

Are you using tap water? It can have a lot of magnesium in it.

thanks

i test it with tropic marine ca mg test
i use tropic marine pro reef salt
i use tropic marine bio mg liquid

i think i add too much additive

because the salt has a lot mg

but is this level of mg is dangerous wahat are the bad effects

and wont i increase the ca at this level of mg

I cannot point to specific known problems of magnesium in the 1500-2000 ppm range, but it is unnatural and I'd try to avoid it.

Elevated magnesium does not cause any problems with calcium.
