hello i just tested my water again and my this is what i have basically gotten over the passed 2-3 months

Ca 410

Alk 3.43

kh 9.6

i read your article http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/nov2002/chem.htm
according to your acticle i am in red box but my alk is high...
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/images/nov2002/figure4.gif

on the salifert test kits it says that alk in nsw is 2.9 and that KH is 8 with calcium levels between 400 and 425.

should i attempt to lower my alk/kh? if so how would i go about doing that without affecting Ca levels?

thanks

gabriel

Hi Gabe,
If you want to drop your alk to more ideal levels, shut your reactor off, dose calcium chloride to maintain your CA levels. Let your alk drop by itself. Once you're at the levels you want, turn your CA reactor back on.

I recommend 2.5-4 meq/L (7-11 dKH), so I do not think there is any problem need attention. That optimal zone is independent of the calcium level. :)
