Tried Google, didn't help.

What's the difference between the two? Advantages/disadvantages? Which do you recommend running?

Go with XP, but in a few months Windows Vista arrives. I have the beta version and it kicks XP's ***!

XP... for sure. 2000 is unstable and you have to install too many updates and patches. Also, 2000 has a few restrictions when it comes to installing certain programs. Trust me, XP is the winner here.. go for it..

i agree on xp over 2000, but there's some mis-information going on. XP and 2000 are both built off the NT kernal and are close enough you can even use the same drivers in a pinch. It's not unstable unless it's on an underpowered machine (RAM and such)

anyways......XP and you'll be content

suse linux is nice. I run it on my server.............I wouldn't use it for my main pc though. Its good and in a few years will probably take more of a market agains microsoft.

Win 2000 is unstable at the most. Its buggy, I have the beta version through final sp here on my desk. I actually helped test 2000 b4 it came out. It was so buggy its not funny. They made a lot of updates and with a fully updated copy it can work pretty good. It will never compare to xp however. In school when I was a computer tech win2000 had the most problems next to Windows ME which takes the cake.

For the "typical" home user, XP. There really isn't another choice with PC unless you go Apple.

Windows 2000 = 6 years old

Windows XP = 4 years old

Neither is great unless you have security locked down, updates done, service paks installed, Anti-virus installed & updated daily/weekly, cookies locked down, spam filter, pop-up blocker
......:(

Thanks for the input.

Is the current opinion on SP2 still thumbs down? Will it automatically install it when I reinstall XP?

As for Linux, I agree it's good, I use it a lot at work/school. But for my personal PC, I'm still a slave to Windows!
