I have had a Crocea Clam (about 4") for 1-1/2 weeks. It looks great, opens up full. I have it on the sand bed. I recently noticed a tanish fleshy mass about 1/2" thick coming from the back of the shell. I haven't disturbed the clam yet to see if it was coming out from the shell or growing on the side.

Is this normal? I have heard they have tissue that they use to grab onto rock. Is this what I see? Do I need to pick up the clam and possibly remove it? I don't want to kill it. Please advise.

Hmm. Hard to tell without a pic. Yes, all clams have a "foot."

Is it normal to see the foot on the substate? I only have about 1" - 2" of aragonite. I placed the clam upright and it tilted itself alittle towards the front, so it looks really nice. I'd hate to move it unless I have to.

Unless it has somehow attached to something, I would place it on a hard surface, not the substrate.
