I would like to say about frag size.
I gurantee at least 0.5" means size of frag should be 0.5 or bigger. If you need bigger one, I can make you but should pay about 4 times (actually I will ask about 3 times) because monti grows only horizonal not like other sps grows vertical. But I think it grows crazily and 0.5" should be enough to get big colony in the near future.

I'd love to have a set of these, but I'm currently having problems keeping monti's and I have no idea why.

I think your tank is perfect for monti. You have any other sps in your tank and they are OK or not? I think monti is much easier than any other sps. So if your other sps is good, no problem to keep monti.
But other sps also have problem I think light is little bit weak considering your tank size. What about upgrade your light to two 400W SE or two 250W DE?

I've got chalices on many levels of the tank. Even some frags on the sandbed that are growing. I've got some monticap frags, some of which are doing swell, while others have started to bleach.

I had a superman monti frag that was great for a month (mid tank), and then bleached overnight. That was nauseating considering what it cost. I've got a large (5x5 or so) monti rock that was great for a long time, and has now started to turn white along the edges, which is creeping inward. It's even in the upper level of the tank.

There's no reason or pattern for me to discern anything with.:confused:

Well. I think there should be problem. If sps becomes rtn or stn, the enviromental change will be one of the most common cause. Sometimes calcium or alk conc and sometimes temp change or sometimes skimmer problem etc..
Anyway I hope you can find the reason and have great sps.

I was dripping kalk for a while, but then stopped due to lack of time. Would that do it? Do I really need to drip kalk for the simpler sps's?

Stop kalk can be cause. Sudden stop and change env can be stress for sps. But in that case rtn or stn can stop soon and get recovered. If rtn or stn eats whole sps, you have to find another reason. And if you got just bleaching not stn or rtn, check about UV from lamp.

Have you checked for monti eating nudis? You are describing exactly what happened to me when I discovered them in my tank.
