GFI tripped by lighting and no power for the day =(

I'm here in central Florida and every afternoon in the summer we have lightning storms. I want to run my tank off a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) outlet but mine gets tripped by power outages and doesn't come back on. Leaving my tank in trouble if I'm not home. I hate to just not use it... does a surge supressor strip reliably protect from this problem?

You might put one powerhead on a non-GFI circuit so if you lose power, your tank still has some circulation.
