Hi all,

I am finally offering fragments of my Cespitularia colonies. Fragments will be at least an inch tall, well established and growing.

The price will be $150.00 per frag, shipping included. Five frags will be offered, first come first served.

Will trade only for true Heteroxenia, Sympodium, or Rhytisma.

Please PM me if interested.

I will post pics in the next couple of days.

Don't let Adam's "inch tall" size scare you, these frags are larger! I traded with Adam at a swap and I feel I made out in the transaction! :)

Although sppoked by my top-down box, you can see the sparkles:

Will you ship?

Will you guarantee alive on arrival? From what I've heard there extremely bad shippers

reefnewbie,

Yes, I will ship... shipping is included in the price. If someone wants to pick up, I will reduce the price accordingly.

I have shipped frags twice and taken them to swaps twice with no problems. I will guarantee live arrival as long as your address is good for the earliest FedEx delivery time and you can prove it was recieved promptly.

When I got my original fragment, it was in shipment for almost three full days due to a FedEx mix up on the sending end. It was shipped according to my precise instructions and survived (although in rough shape). I am confident in my ability to ship it successfully.

Liz

Thanks for the good word! Glad to see the frag is doing well.

everyone

Although the frag in Liz's pic is a bit contracted, it is a good representation of what I am offering and shows the irridescent sclerites pretty well.

Colonies turn much more blue under brighter light. For example, under VHO's it is mostly silvery with some blue and some green. Under 20K MH, it is almost all pale blue.

Unless someone really wants a WYSIWYG, I won't bother posting any other pics.

Stoney,

10,000 Days rocks! It did take a couple of listens to grow on me, but it isn't easy listening after all.

Just want to bump and say Adam is a great person to deal with. Got a few items from him at a swap a few years ago. Don't hesitate to purchase frags from him.

JonK,

Thanks for the kind words.

All,

Here are some additional pics of my parent colonies. The color is off because of the camera flash (it makes them look very green). They are actually sort of silvery pale blue.

Adam,

Sorry to hijack your thread, but what lighting are they under and in your opinion do you get that coloration in low or high lighting. I have a frag but the coloration is nowheres near your picture. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ulmo,

No worries... no hijack percieved!

The piece in the top pic is about 24" below a 400w 20K MH.

The bottom two are about 12" below 4xVHO. There are two actinics and two daylights.

I have found that my colonies adapt well to a wide variety of lighting conditions and that as a general rule, brighter light produces more blue. I have not experimented with enough different color temperatures to form an opinion on the effect, although I will say that it did not look as good under warmer (6500K) metal halide.

Hope this helps.

6500K is great for growing corals, bad for coloration (pretty much general rule throughout reefing)
20000K is best for color, slowest to grow.

I personally like the combo of 14-15000K.

I would never recommend under 10000K because almost every coral(even bright colored ones) tend to brown out, but still thrive and grow extremely well. But, what good is a fast growing coral without color?

Adam & Cschweitzer,

Thanks so much for the information. Unfortunately, I'm running Reeflux 10K and coral coloration is some what lacking. I'll place the frag higher up and see if I can get more blue coloration. By the way, your picture looks awesome. Thanks again for your advice.

cschweitzer,

I agree, however that is a gross generality. I have seen and kept many very colorful corals under nothing but 6500K metal halides and I have had colorful corals brown out under 20Ks. I have also observed that this generality really breaks down when it comes to most softies.

I would also submit that the lack of growth under 20Ks is due to their lower par, not the spectrum.

As for your question: "But, what good is a fast growing coral without color?" I look at it the other way around... what good is a colorful coral if it doesn't grow? If it isn't growing, it is either not getting enough energy or significant energy is being diverted to producing pigments.
