Hello all I was wondering any out in pa, what it was like out there and how far out you were. Basicly my inlaws have an idea that we could sell our homes and buy about 10 acres and build two new homes. So my question is wheres is the closet towns towards ny or bigger cities aside of from milford and matmoris. And what is the expenses and what types of jobs are out there ? I know the saleries are less but I'm looking to be a police officer so I m' hopping I could get something in that field

How close to the city do you need to be? You're not going to find 10 acres within a reasonable distance unless you're a billionaire.

This is just and idea that was presented to me I 'm not positive that we are doing this. And yes it would be near my inlaws but what ever. Now that we have all the jokes out of our systems I would appreaciate some real imput. I am going to entering the nypd in july and would figure that we wouldn;t be moving for almost a year. So I would want to live around 2 hrs from the city. Now I'm not sure that this is possible but maybe there are still cheap areas around there ? Like I said this isn't writen in stone. Thank you

What do you consider cheap? I live about 1 hr from NYC and the price for a lot is about 50 to 75K depending on the location. You could find something a lot cheaper in the Poconos and still be within 2 hrs from NYC...

Oh see I wasn't sure that the poconos were still cheap I thought they were becoming like here (upstate) were you could sell a bi-level for like 350-400k

100K in the Poconos will get you a slamm'n house yet!

I live about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, a block from the Allegheny River. Land and housing is very cheap in this area.

can be....scranton, or pocono area are both 45 minutes from NY....its just west on I-78 from ny to there.......there are also other areas more to the south towards philly that are less than 90 minutes away and are still at least partly rural(up and down northeast extension of PA turnpike)
