Hi All!

I wanted to know if anyone is running a chiller in-line with a uv sterilizer. I am planing on adding both and I wasn't sure if the uv sterlizer would be working against the chiller. If I do it this way what should come first in the line? I know the sterilzer will add heat, that is part of the reason that I haven't added it yet.

I would also appreciate any experiences with the eco-plus chillers that a certain west end fish store sells. The price sounds good, but I would rather spend a little more if the quality isn't there.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Will

Will, I would think that any UV would add heat so I guess -before intering the cooler. I do not use UV anymore but many years ago would not have run a tank without one. I know(believe) that my water quailty has really changed ALOT since those days and I haven't "seen" the need for one!

I HAVE MY UV RUNNING INLINE BEFORE MY CHILLER AND IT WORKS FLAWLESSLY. MY TANK TEMP STAYS ROCK SOLID AT 77 F AND THE CHILLER DOES NOT RUN ALL THE TIME.

What kind of chiller are you running?

I am sure that chillers are much like A/C units. IMHO, all a/c units are basically the same. they use the same compressors, coils, etc. Some units have fancier covers then others, and more controls. Wish I could be of more help!
Hey, I wonder if the store you know of--- does a buy one get one free deal? You know, the same deal as every GOOD store offers :) :lol2:
I do remember one time (I think it was just last year) when a couple of guys in the hampton reef club got a few bad chillers shipped to them.. I don't remember the name brand.. I wonder what response you would get on the equipment forum if you asked for opinions of chillers?

Will,
I have a 1/4 HP chiller that you mentioned above on my 220. I bought it when my 1/3 HP JBJ Artica fried a relay. The eco-plus is too small for my tank and lights but it did keep the water from going above 81.
I'm running 3 - 400 Watt MH's and a UV light. The UV is not in line with the chiller.
I've since fixed the JBJ chiller so I have both the JBJ and eco-plus in line with each other and my water stays on 77 all the time.
If either goes out now I have a backup.

UV units and chillers have optimum recommended flow rates. You would not want to plumb a UV in line with a chiller unless the recommended flow rates are similar.
