Alright I just set up a 75 gallon reef and bought all this rock from another guy. HE HAD TONS OF THIS STUFF. If you guys will let me know how to frag this stuff and ship it, all you have to do is pay shipping. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. I have a lot of it though so don't sweat it. Anyways here is a pic so you guys can see it. I don't know what kind of pulsing xenia it is as I am new to this hobby. I have only had this stuff in the tank for about 3 days but have been recomended by many to frag this stuff. Thanks guys

i would highly recommend shipping overnight with this stuff...... it has a bad reputaition for melting in the mail. Overnight should be alright though, as long as its packed good! thanks for being so generous with your newly found corals! i wish more people would do this with, oh, lets say ricordea or blastos ;)

Alright guys I will be checking in the next few days on shipping quotes. I am going to be very busy with school this week so it will be next week before I actually get to ship any of these out. I will probably do it all at once so I am going to set a date of say June 5 or 6th is when I will ship ALL of them out. Please if you are interested please post your zip code and I will get you a shipping quote but anything posted after I ship will just have to wait till the next time I feel like doing this. sorry but hey I'm doing this for free. Also I still need to know how to get these things off the rock. peel them off with big tweezers or just cut them at the base. cheers mates

Cool deal man...no rush....

I've heard a razor blade as close to the rock as you can get works on other things like polyps....not sure if it would be any different for these...I'll post a question in the newb threads for you...

Scrape it off with anything sharp, and the best way to ship is with a really wet paper towel and no water. This seems the best way that I have ever shipped or recieved. Just make sure the bag and towel are really wet.

Alright guys. It seems like the prefered method for doing this is to cut this stuff with a sharp razor blade then ship it in a bag with a damp paper towel. My only concern is that I have talked with a few people and they have warned me about this stuff not shipping well. Are there any guinea pigs that are willing to fork up the overnight shipping cost to see how this stuff comes through? I would like to find a good way of shipping this stuff before I take everyones money for shipping and do it all at once just to find out that this method is crap. Let me know

thuglove
05/31/2006, 10:01 AM
you guys can get a around about qoute for your selfs at fedex.com ups.com or usps.com,from what this one site said Fayetteville, AR zip should be 72701.atleast that will give a ideal of about how much it will be..

it looks like usps is going to be cheapest for overnight, but i dont beleave they Guarantee anything, but it says on their site nextday by 3pm if shipped b4 5pm.fedex has a nice deal of nextday by 10:30am for about 35% more or 3pm for about 20% more then what usps.com qouted me for 3lbs shiped from 72701..

Alright, it looks like it is going to be around $20-25 dollars for next day shipments from UPS. If you want to get your own specific quote, please go to http://wwwapps.ups.com/calTimeCost?loc=en_US

I will be shipping it in an envelope and shipping weight will be 1lb (pretty sure that is the minimum you can have). Declare the value at $10 and make sure that you check that it is being shipped to a residential place. Now after all this is said and done, add $4 to that shipping price just to cover all these stinking yellow envelopes and paypal fees. Now for the next part, I need a volunteer that is willing to fork over this fee so we can test to see how this stuff ships. Send me a PM if you are willing and I will give you my paypal address. Once again there is no guarantee with this stuff, I would just like to find out if it does ok before we go through all the trouble of shipping this stuff and I take everyones money just to find out that it doesn't work. Cheers mates

Nevermind all that. Got a local guy here that will get it in one day shipping ground. Were gonna find out how this stuff does the beginning of next week.

Xenia slimes terribly, so slicing and shipping is probably not the best option. It may work, though it would definitely need to be shipped "dry" (ie: damp newspaper as was already mentioned) and overnight.

If you can knock some off the rock with a hammer and chisel (not as easy as slice and dice, but much easier on the coral obviously) you can ship it either dry or in the typical Acro fashion, suspended on a small piece of styrofoam.

I've shipped both ways and both work well. If you let it sit outside the water for a few minutes before bagging it up, it will slime up good, then a quick rinse and into the bag it goes.

Good luck!
